Did you also know that Waterford was honored by the Community Associations Institute (CAI) last year? It was one of five communities in North Carolina to be called a “Community of Excellence”. The community’s manager, Ms. Neale Turlington, was named “Manager of the Year” as well. CAI is dedicated to honoring communities and community managers who maintain a very high level of of management and stewardship. Since its founding, Waterford has been known for its careful management of community funds, as well as forward-thinking strategizing and good communication between management and residents.

Living in Waterford Is Like Being on Vacation Everyday

Visitors to the community can immediately feel the effects of the great managements. Waterford property owners will be happy to sing the praises of their neighborhood and the great amenities that make the community so welcoming and special. Friends get together to play tennis or cool off at the pool. Families make connections while their kids play at the playground. The canals that connect the different neighborhoods offer a place for kayaking and paddleboarding enthusiasts to hang out, as well as people who love fishing.

The community clubhouse is another place where residents gather. Centrally located, it’s an easy walk no matter which neighborhood you start from. There is a lending library of books, as well as a great room with plenty of cozy armchairs and a roaring fire when the weather is cool. The clubhouse is the place to go to for all sorts of different fitness classes and interest clubs. Join a table games group and meet people who enjoy Mahjong, bridge, bunco, and many other games. There are also book clubs, gardening groups, and fishing clubs.

Have Fun Near Harbor Point Real Estate at Surf City Pier

Visit the pier near Harbor Point real estate. One of the great things about owning Harbor Point real estate is that you’re so close to the ocean and Surf City Pier. The pier originally opened in 1948 and was completely rebuilt after Hurricane Fran destroyed it in 1996. The grand opening of the new pier was in August of 1997, and it included some great additions. People living in Harbor Point homes can come for fishing. The pier is well-lit, so night fishermen can get their catch in easily. There are also two fish cleaning stations with running water. If you forget something or need to stock up on gear, head to the fully stocked bait and tackle shop.

People from Harbor Point Homes Go Fishing and Eat Ice Cream

Visitors can enjoy the SCP Grill & Ice Cream, too. Order a hearty breakfast all day long. Or go for one of the freshly grilled hamburgers or hot dogs with french fries. There’s also great barbecue. Since the ocean is right next door, the seafood is always fresh and delicious. Try a combination of shrimp, flounder, or oysters, served with fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies. There are also scrumptious po’ boy sandwiches, with fish, shrimp or oysters and served with fries.

The ice cream is a favorite of Harbor Point real estate owners. Try a plain vanilla soft serve in a cake or waffle cone or add some candy. For a sweet indulgence, go for one of the Nor’easter, which includes chocolate sauce, candies, and nuts. You can choose from several combinations off the menu or make up your own.

The pier is open from mid-March through December 1st, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All visitors will need either a pass or a ticket. Season passes go on sale in September. Fishing passes for one person start at $200, while spectator passes start at $30.

Visit Surf City Pier to learn more about the different pass options, find a full menu for the grill and ice cream, and find a schedule of events.

People Living in Waterford Explore Nature in Leland’s Parks

People living in Waterford go to the parks. One of the great things about living in Waterford are all the amazing trails, canals, and sports facilities. It’s amazingly easy for Waterford property owners to get fresh air and exercise without having to leave their neighborhood. But it’s also a lot of fun to explore new places and meet new friends. The town of Leland has several great parks that attract residents from all over town. Here’s a quick overview of the parks of Leland. Why not pick one to visit soon and get to know this lovely area?

Leland Municipal Park is located at 113 Town Hall Drive. It is comprised of eight acres, with picnic tables, a gazebo, and a playground. In addition there is a paved multi-use trail that is a little over a half mile long. It’s a great place for a walk, a jog, or a family bike ride. A community garden is located nearby at 102 Town Hall Drive. It’s a fun place to meet other gardeners, grow your own food, and cultivate beautiful flowers. The cost to rent a plot for a season is $5 or $10 for a whole year.

Waterford Property Owners Enjoy Many Acres of Public Parks

In 2005, Kirby Sullivan donated 27 acres of wetlands to the town. This was combined with another 1.2 acres of uplands to create Cypress Grove Park. The park is located at 844 Appleton Way. It’s a beautiful wooded area with water access for canoes, kayaks, and small Jon boats. There is even a handicap-accessible fishing deck.

Finally, head to Westgate Nature Park to explore 150 acres of wetlands and uplands. The town is still in the process of improving the park with amenities. Phase I is complete and includes a paved trail, just over a quarter mile in length, which is perfect for walking, biking, and jogging. There’s a nature playground with picnic tables, and an elevated boardwalk and outdoor classroom with a view of the wetlands. There are plans for a total of five miles of trails, and multiple overlooks and outdoor classrooms to facilitate the public’s enjoyment of the unique wetlands environment. Westgate Nature Park is located at 1260 West Gate Drive, on the south side of Highway 17.

Everyone living in Waterford is welcome to visit these public parks and enjoy the scenery. Visit the Parks and Recreation Department online to learn more about each one and find a current calendar of classes and events.
