Leland Municipal Park is located at 113 Town Hall Drive. It is comprised of eight acres, with picnic tables, a gazebo, and a playground. In addition there is a paved multi-use trail that is a little over a half mile long. It’s a great place for a walk, a jog, or a family bike ride. A community garden is located nearby at 102 Town Hall Drive. It’s a fun place to meet other gardeners, grow your own food, and cultivate beautiful flowers. The cost to rent a plot for a season is $5 or $10 for a whole year.
Waterford Property Owners Enjoy Many Acres of Public Parks
In 2005, Kirby Sullivan donated 27 acres of wetlands to the town. This was combined with another 1.2 acres of uplands to create Cypress Grove Park. The park is located at 844 Appleton Way. It’s a beautiful wooded area with water access for canoes, kayaks, and small Jon boats. There is even a handicap-accessible fishing deck.
Finally, head to Westgate Nature Park to explore 150 acres of wetlands and uplands. The town is still in the process of improving the park with amenities. Phase I is complete and includes a paved trail, just over a quarter mile in length, which is perfect for walking, biking, and jogging. There’s a nature playground with picnic tables, and an elevated boardwalk and outdoor classroom with a view of the wetlands. There are plans for a total of five miles of trails, and multiple overlooks and outdoor classrooms to facilitate the public’s enjoyment of the unique wetlands environment. Westgate Nature Park is located at 1260 West Gate Drive, on the south side of Highway 17.
Everyone living in Waterford is welcome to visit these public parks and enjoy the scenery. Visit the Parks and Recreation Department online to learn more about each one and find a current calendar of classes and events.
