Anyone thinking of living in Wilmington should take time to check out Kirkwood homes. The area is comprised of two neighborhoods--Kirkwood and Arrondale. Find single-family homes that range in size from 1,100 to 2,500 square feet. Some homes are single story, while others have two stories. Most Kirkwood homes have three bedrooms. Some have a finished room over the garage (also known as a FROG), which can be used as a home office, guest room, or rec room. These houses sit on lots ranging from 1/5 to 1/2 an acre in size. Residents of Kirkwood enjoy a community pool, funded by affordable HOA fees. Arrondale does not have a pool but does have lower HOA fees. The development has around 650 homes, mostly built by local builders Stevens Fine Homes and Everett Builders. Prices start in the low $200,000s.
Children from Kirkwood real estate go to strong public schools--Anderson Elementary, Murray Middle School, and Anderson High School. Families can also choose from several excellent private and charter schools. Residents can also enjoy Veterans Park, which is just a little way south of Kirkwood. There are trails for walking and biking, as well as a fun playground for kids. Play tennis, volleyball, or pickleball on the courts. There are fields for baseball, softball, and soccer. Those who love the beach can hop over to Carolina Beach, which is less than miles away from Kirkwood. Cape Fear River is also very close, so there are plenty of water based activities.
Great shopping is also quite close to Kirkwood. Monkey Junction is a few miles away. There are several local eateries, as well as larger chains, and even a great wine bar and shop. Go grocery shopping, do your banking, and get your car serviced. Old downtown Wilmington is also very close. Find fun boutiques, great restaurants, and enjoy community events. Residents can find many job and business opportunities in downtown, which makes Kirkwood a great choice for a short commute.
